Ashley Murray is a senior news reporter in States Newsroom’s Washington Bureau where she chases daily news on Capitol Hill, attends the White House briefings in rotation with regional colleagues and covers SCOTUS arguments. As part of a small team, she reports on many beat areas including taxes, veterans, foreign affairs and then-former President Donald Trump’s criminal cases. For the 2024 presidential campaign, Ashley reported from the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, the campaign trail in the battleground of Pennsylvania and the Trump rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City. In her previous years at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Ashley was part of the 2019 Pulitzer Prize winning staff at the Post-Gazette for Breaking News Reporting on the mass shooting at the Tree of Life synagogue in the city’s Squirrel Hill neighborhood. She completed her M.A. in Media Communication, with a specialization in Environmental Journalism, from Point Park University in Pittsburgh, Pa., in May 2018. Prior to graduate school, Murray was the multimedia editor of the Pittsburgh City Paper. Her written and multimedia work has appeared in/on the Salon.com, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Allegheny Front, WESA-FM and Trib Total Media.
